BTW regarding the wreck- do NOT talk to the other insurance company- the @ fault driver’s insurance company. You’re not required if you have a lawyer. Get a lawyer!! Call them from the hospital if you have to they’ll come to you @ the hospital if you call them there. They’ll even come out to your house. Please don’t let the insurance company screw you. You just want what’s fair & your property covered fairly.

Some insurance companies will offer a discount based on your occupation. Statistically, some occupations — teachers, physicians, or police officers — are less likely to file a claim and thus pose less risk. Because of this, some insurance companies return the savings back to you. Usually, they will require proof of your profession, such as a photocopy of your professional degree or certification.
Qualifying for this discount involves carrying two insurance policies with one company. Common bundling combinations include home-and-auto or renters-and-auto. The discount is greater for the former, with a homeowners-plus-auto combo saving an average of $110 per year, compared to $72 for a renters-and-auto pairing. The discount affects both policies. The estimated savings below refers only to the auto insurance policy discount.

Being in the business for a very long time, I have found that most people are clueless about insurance, even most agents who sell them. I will agree that their rates are cheap. But I wouldn’t recommend them. Inexperienced adjusters. They do not fully investigate. The policy does not cover like, kind, and quality which is bad if you have a new vehicle.
I have been a GEICO customer for about least 15 years. Claims and customer service are not the issue with them. After said years of faithfully paying my insurance on time and renewing each year I accidently back into a car in my driveway. The cars were repaired without incident. However, GEICO penalized me by taking away my good driver discount and increase my monthly insurance rate by nearly $100.00 ; leving a hefty penalty for making a claim. I can’t imagine the money they made off of me during the 15 years I’ve faithfully paid auto insurance. I am hunting for a new auto insurance carrier since GEICO obviously thinks driving is perfect and accidents never happen.

Comprehensive insurance and collision insurance are commonly mixed up. Both types of insurance coverage insure your car however they cover different events. Collision insurance covers car accidents while comprehensive insurance covers circumstances outside of your control, such as natural disasters and animals. One way to distinguish the difference between the two is thinking of collision insurance as your car colliding with something (other than an animal), and comprehensive insurance is everything else. Accidents involving animals are considered out of your control and covered by comprehensive insurance. Comprehensive coverage doesn’t include everything, but if you have concerns about your car hitting an animal, theft or vandalism, you should consider upgrading your policy today. The Insurance Information Institute suggests that you take the amount you'd pay in one year for comprehensive and collision coverage, and multiply that number by 10. Is your car worth less than that number? Then comprehensive and collision coverage might not be a cost-effective option for you. In other words, you might want to talk to your agent about whether it makes sense to include these coverages on your car insurance policy.
Policies typically use vague language when referring to acts of terrorism, but they are generally insured by the comprehensive portion of your policy. For example, if there is an act of terror and you need to make a claim on your car, that can only be made if you have comprehensive coverage. Since some circumstances are out of our control, comprehensive insurance is certainly important to have in your policy.
Naturally, this discount is offered for drivers with clean driving records. Good driver discounts can be added when your Motor Vehicle Report or CLUE report is pulled at the inception of your auto policy. If you're convinced you have a clean driving record — meaning no at-fault accidents or violations — and aren't receiving a discount, speak with your insurance company and ask if they offer a discount for good drivers. By keeping a clean slate, you can earn a discount of approximately 10% while avoiding the costly penalties listed below.
Comprehensive car insurance coverage includes a deductible (the amount you will have to pay out of pocket). An example of how comprehensive car insurance works would be if a deer ran across the road, into the side of your car and caused $4,000 in damage. First, you would file an auto insurance claim or a request for the insurance company to pay for your losses. If you have car insurance with The Hartford, you can file a claim here. Next, your car would be repaired. If you have a $1,000 deductible, you pay the first $1,000 of repair costs and The Hartford covers the remaining $3,000.
The cost of comprehensive coverage depends largely on the deductible amount, which commonly ranges from $250 to $1,000. A higher deductible means that the driver will have to cover more of any damages before the insurance coverage kicks in, but also lowers the overall premium. Increasing the deductible from $200 to $500, for instance, can reduce premiums by 15 to 30 percent [source: Kiplinger]. Of course, a person who opts for a higher deductible will want to be sure that he or she can pay it in the event that the car is damaged and should weigh upfront premium savings against a higher deductible on the back end.
I have been with Geico for 10 years, what kept me with them is that my daughter had just graduated high school and started college she asked to borrow the car because she was late for school, I said yes she got into a fender bender. Geico paid the claim and they even asked its my choice to add my daughter to my policy or not. Insurance only went up by $30 dollars a month.

If you have paid off your car, comprehensive coverage is optional. It may be a good idea to find out the Kelley Blue Book value of your vehicle. Would you be able to pay that amount to repair or replace your vehicle if it were stolen or damaged in an accident? If you can't afford to pay much out of pocket, then buying optional coverages, like comprehensive coverage and collision coverage, may be a smart investment.

The amount of coverage comprehensive car insurance provides depends on your car’s actual cash value (ACV). ACV is the actual cash value of the property on the date of the loss. To determine ACV of a vehicle in a car claim, the values of comparable vehicles in your area are taken into consideration. Comprehensive insurance coverage will pay an amount up to the ACV of your car to either repair or replace your car. If the cost of repairs exceeds your car’s actual cash value, it will be declared a total loss and The Hartford will pay the sum of the car’s ACV to help replace it. Our data shows that 7% of Progressive drivers with comprehensive coverage have a comprehensive claim in a given year, and the average repair is about $1,400. Without comprehensive, that's how much you may have to pay out of pocket. Keep in mind, repair costs can vary widely based on your damage and how much your car is worth. Typically more expensive cars cost more to repair.
Almost all drivers across the country are at risk for damages that would be covered by comprehensive car insurance. Choosing this optional coverage may help put your mind at ease especially if you live in an area prone to theft, vandalism or natural disasters. Whether you live on the Florida coast, in an area with a lot of wildlife, or in a tornado-prone area, comprehensive insurance coverage is an important way to protect you from the potentially significant costs of non-collision damage to your vehicle.

I am glad to see USAA at the bottom; but it should not be on the list at all. I am currently going through a claim with them (total loss, I got rear ended, pushed into the car in front of me and they hit the car in front of them; not at fault). I have all correspondence recorded and proof of them lying to me, and using made up regulations to justify it. When asked for the reference for said regulations, I am ignored. I have been throwing WAC at them, quote after quote as to how they are being unruly. This was in December, it is now April and they have YET to give me a valuation report in compliance with WAC. I will be more than happy to provide a copy of our correspondence (with PII edited, obviously), proving how bad USAA is at customer service and how willing they are to break the rules if it benefits them. Email me if you want to see it. I finally had enough and contacted the Washington State Insurance Commissioner; USAA has until the middle of this month to respond to them… We will see what happens next.
Matthew thanks for posting this. You’re absolutely right. USAA has gone down the tubes, I dont get it, a simple claim recently for auto, turned into a nightmare. bouncing my calls all over the country with a bunch of idiots for claim reps answering the phones, and forcing my car into total loss when it should not have been, and paying only a portion of the damage even though I have collision.
Collision and comprehensive insurance are two optional types of auto insurance where your insurer pays for repairs to your vehicle. While there are other optional auto insurance coverages, liability, comprehensive, and collision are three of the most common. These coverages work hand-in-hand to repair or replace most of the damages to your car. It's important to know the difference, and make sure you're adequately covered.
Myriad factors determine car insurance rates, including location, your age, your insurance history, your driving history, and the car you drive. If you've accumulated at-fault accidents or claims, your rate will increase. If your credit history is poor or your ZIP code has a large number of uninsured motorists, you might not be able to find cheap auto insurance.
