There are several smaller insurance companies that do very well in surveys, but aren't always offered in all 50 states. Chief among these is Amica Mutual. Customers say that the company provides excellent customer service and low-hassle claims service. The company also offers a rental car option, but reviews for that service are not quite as good. However, there are a wide range of options for rental car coverage, so paying more may offer better satisfaction.

Switching to Amica from State Farm because I reviewed my State Farm policy and found that they are no longer paying to return my vehicle to "pre-loss" condition, and instead they are only paying for what is competative in the market area. I have been with State Farm for over 12 years, and recently read my policy booklet, and found this out. Based on the way State Farm's auto policies read I am very unhappy. State Farm gets to dictate what is competative in the market area, and because the majority of the shops in my area are not good shops, State Farm will not pay to have my vehicle repaired properly because it isn't competative in the market area as my policy reads. This also means that if I hit someone and they take their vehicle to a quality shop and State Farm does not pay for the cost to repair the other party's vehicle properly, then I can be sued by the person I hit. I expect more from my insurance, and I hope others do to. After contacting Amica I have found their ...more
Type of car: If you have an expensive or powerful car then you are seen as a higher risk for a number of reasons. If it’s expensive, it has a higher risk of being stolen. If it’s powerful, it’s deemed more at risk of getting into an accident driving at speed. If you want to see how your car impacts your insurance, you can check which insurance group it’s in for an indication.

USAA’s adjustor knew he messed up big time. He told me that & I said no I don’t agree & I’m not accepting that, so, I guess you need to finish this conversation with my lawyer. He promptly snarkily replied we can’t talk if you have a lawyer… I said I guess we can’t talk then here’s his number & hung up. I think he had enough time to Google my lawyer & he called me back to back 3x. The 3rd one I said you said we can’t talk so we’re not talking. You are finishing it with my lawyer… click. I’m done messing around @ this point. I hurt. I can’t get to my follow-up doctors appointments & they’re trying to screw me out of fair market value for my truck. Just no way.
For the best, most affordable and flexible coverage for military families, check out the highly rated military-only option first: USAA, or the United Services Automobile Association. Progressive is one car insurance company that also does well in owner satisfaction surveys and with experts. It's number three on NerdWallet.com's list of cheap car insurance companies, behind only GEICO and State Farm. However, there are quite a few options for discounts and they even provide injury coverage for your pets. Best of all, for those on the tightest of budgets, Progressive has a program called Snapshot that can save you an impressive amount of money on your car insurance -- up to 30 percent -- but only if you're willing to give up some personal privacy. The "snapshot" is a small device you install in your vehicle that records your driving habits for 30 days. During that time, it gathers information from various factors, including when you drive, how much, how you brake, among others, to create an overall picture of your common driving habits. If you meet the safe driver requirements, you can earn up to that 30 percent discount. That could be a significant savings for those on the tightest of budgets. There are other companies that also offer similar tracking programs, but Progressive's was the first, and is reported to be a very good deal by those who have used it.

What's more, most car modifiers take extremely good care of their cars, which is a big plus with your insurer. Low mileages, top-of-the-line garaging, and more-than-regular maintenance come standard for these hobbyists. Because they've spent thousands to create the car of their dreams, they're not likely to risk losing that investment to reckless driving.
