"I have had many engine upgrades. When I first bought the car it did not have a turbo and was only 220bhp. Then, I did a twin turbo transplant which took the power close to 300bhp. I then did a BPU setup, taking the power to around 450bhp. After this, I pushed the twin turbos, so changed to a Holset single setup 550bhp. After the Holset died I got the Garret T88 single turbo (which is my current setup) and now the car runs at 700bhp."

(iii) The 'Driving Other Cars' extension offers limited cover. Some people have a 'Driving Other Cars' extension on their own insurance policy. This covers the policyholder only; and not any additional named drivers. Should you be involved in an accident, the 'Driving Other Cars' extension would not cover you for any damage to your friend's car – only the 'third party' involved. In contrast, if a short term insurance policy was taken out, this cover is comprehensive, meaning the vehicle would be covered, even in the event of a fault accident.
All purchased car insurance policies are added to the MID (Motor Insurance Database) and any policy can be checked by visiting the AskMID website. Unfortunately, the database updates irregularly, sometimes as little as once a week and, in addition, the police ANPR camera database is updated weekly. This can mean that the police may stop you for “driving without insurance” when you are fully insured. If this happens you can show the officers your policy documents and ask that they do a live MID check.

I have been a GEICO customer for about least 15 years. Claims and customer service are not the issue with them. After said years of faithfully paying my insurance on time and renewing each year I accidently back into a car in my driveway. The cars were repaired without incident. However, GEICO penalized me by taking away my good driver discount and increase my monthly insurance rate by nearly $100.00 ; leving a hefty penalty for making a claim. I can’t imagine the money they made off of me during the 15 years I’ve faithfully paid auto insurance. I am hunting for a new auto insurance carrier since GEICO obviously thinks driving is perfect and accidents never happen.
A common misunderstanding is that annual insurance policies that cover commuting allow business trips to any location – they don’t! Commuting use only covers journeys to or from your regular place of work – so this could exclude cover if you visit a client, attend a training course or help out at a local branch. Our temp car insurance policies provide full business use (but not the carrying of goods or passengers for hire or reward).
I was with Liberty Mutual for about 15 years and was very satisfied with their prices and service, although I never filed a claim. When I retired and moved from California to Florida, my auto rate went up a ridiculous amount, to almost $10,000 a year even though I had no accidents and one minor moving violation in the last ten years. On top of that, Liberty Mutual screwed up my umbrella policy and told me it was “unenforceable,” whatever that means, but I had to pay for the policy anyway up to the time I canceled and switched to Progressive, which cost about one third the cost of Liberty Mutual for an identical policy. Even good companies change over time.
Matthew thanks for posting this. You’re absolutely right. USAA has gone down the tubes, I dont get it, a simple claim recently for auto, turned into a nightmare. bouncing my calls all over the country with a bunch of idiots for claim reps answering the phones, and forcing my car into total loss when it should not have been, and paying only a portion of the damage even though I have collision.
BTW regarding the wreck- do NOT talk to the other insurance company- the @ fault driver’s insurance company. You’re not required if you have a lawyer. Get a lawyer!! Call them from the hospital if you have to they’ll come to you @ the hospital if you call them there. They’ll even come out to your house. Please don’t let the insurance company screw you. You just want what’s fair & your property covered fairly.
Let's use the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy as an example to illustrate the differences between collision and comprehensive. Within that storm, let's consider two events that might have happened: 1) a heavy tree branch fell on your car, or 2) you swerved to avoid a falling tree branch and wound up crashing into a tree. In the first event, you had no control over when or why a tree branch would fall on your car. This kind of accident would get reimbursed under your comprehensive policy. In the second situation, you were driving the car and ultimately swerved into the tree, which makes it a collision, and collision insurance therefore pays for the damages. Events like the hypothetical ones stated above are why it's important to differentiate between the two types of coverage.
