Type of car: If you have an expensive or powerful car then you are seen as a higher risk for a number of reasons. If it’s expensive, it has a higher risk of being stolen. If it’s powerful, it’s deemed more at risk of getting into an accident driving at speed. If you want to see how your car impacts your insurance, you can check which insurance group it’s in for an indication.
Car insurance is required in every state (and Washington DC) with three exceptions: New Hampshire, Missouri (uninsured drivers must submit “proof of financial responsibility” to the Department of Revenue), and Virginia (where drivers must pay a $500 fee to drive uninsured). These states still require at-fault drivers to pay for any bodily injury and property damage.
I have insurance with the General and I do not like it at all. Their customer service is subpar and their ability to handle/file claims takes forever! There was an easy online application, but coverage is not outlined and when I first signed up, I thought I was choosing full coverage and I actually chose the state minimum, which cost me more when I got into an accident. When I called to change my coverage… read more
Allstate has stated intentions of reducing its exposure in hurricane-prone Florida. In November 2006, Allstate did not renew 120,000 policies that were expiring at that time. Governor Charlie Crist and the Florida Cabinet passed a 90-day emergency order to temporarily prevent insurance companies from nonrenewing policies. On February 20, 2007, Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty clarified the order, stating that insurance companies can nonrenew policies if they satisfy certain conditions, including filing new, lower rates with the state and give customers 100 days’ notice.
The General, unlike most companies focusing on selling nonstandard auto insurance, has a mobile app and an online portal to make managing your policy easier. The General’s online portal, MyPolicy, provides users with basic functionalities like the ability to make payments, receive ID cards and view policy details. While none of the features are unique, they provide high-risk drivers with the same benefits that standard drivers have access to through large national insurance companies, like State Farm and Farmers.
Drivers with good driving records typically enjoy lower car insurance costs than drivers with histories of speeding tickets, at-fault accidents, or DUI citations. Texas drivers without a recent moving violation save just 4% on their car insurance premiums, on average — compared to the national average of 17%. In addition to earning a cheaper premium for driving incident-free, you may qualify for a safe-driving bonus through your car insurance company. The amount of these discounts may vary, but they typically run between 5 and 10%.
If you choose the legal minimum coverage level in Texas, expect to pay an average of $826 annually. This expenditure is more expensive than the nationwide average by 26%. If you opt for better coverage, you can choose a policy with comprehensive and collision coverage, which will protect against the costs of car-on-car crashes, theft and vandalism, or weather incidents. But better coverage comes with a cost: in Texas, a comprehensive insurance policy with a $1,000 deductible costs $1,620, 96% more than liability-only car insurance. For a comprehensive policy with a $500 deductible, expect to pay 120% more than you would for basic coverage.

I asked why my premium increased. I was told it was because I moved. That's a reason??? They kept saying the same thing over and over. I moved to a less congested area a MILE from where I was before, less crime, and my car is now parked inside of a garage. I asked how underwriting came up with an increase simply because I moved. Their response? "Underwriting doesn't answer those kinds of questions". I asked, "Can someone answer the question intelligently?" Their response "the answer is that your premium increased because you moved". BYE BYE GENERAL!!
Each auto insurance company emphasizes its cheap rates. But as with any product or service, the cheapest car insurance option isn't always the best choice. Considering what's at stake, it's worth doing the research to find the policy that protects your vehicle adequately after an incident. Be patient and look for a great value, rather than settling for the cheapest auto insurance you find.
Wow I know the General Automotive commercial from anywhere for as long as I can remember! It was time for me to renew my auto insurance since my policy slightly increased with my previous insurance carrier. So I finally decide to give the General a try. At first I received a quote online that I felt comfortable with. I call them the next day, the service was friendly and fast. They talked to me and… read more
"After being with my insurance company for just shy of 10 years, and after having shopped at companies that everyone around my hometown swore were the cheapest (including unadvertised "bargain" companies and giant comparison shopping brands), I decided to shop here at Cheap Car Insurance and ended up saving just under $1,100 off my annual insurance bill, which is a lot more than I ever could have imagined anyone saving, especially me, an avid online shopper and extreme bargain hunter [...]
Dallas and the surrounding metro area has one of the highest populations in Texas. A large population also means a lot of drivers. Dallas County itself had more than two million registered vehicles in 2016. With so many people on the road, driving risks may increase. This means that Dallas drivers should take special care to obtain the correct auto insurance.
“ The instant case presents yet another illustration of the dangers of the present complex structuring of insurance policies. Unfortunately the insurance industry has become addicted to the practice of building into policies one condition or exception upon another in the shape of a linguistic Tower of Babel. We join other courts in decrying a trend which both plunges the insured into a state of uncertainty and burdens the judiciary with the task of resolving it. We reiterate our plea for clarity and simplicity in policies that fulfill so important a public service. ”
When comparing car insurance quotes, it helps to compare apples to apples; in other words, you want to be sure that the quotes you get are for identical - or at least very similar - auto insurance policies. Once you have a better idea of the type of coverage you’re looking for in a policy, this will be easy. To better understand coverage types start here
While creating a profile does not guarantee Allstate's business, it gives corporate decision-makers the information necessary to identify qualified prospective suppliers who may be able to meet their product or service requirements for business operations. If we determine there is a need for your product or service, the appropriate Allstate representative will contact you.
In 1941, only about a quarter of US drivers had auto liability insurance. This led to the state of New York passing a law which established the financial responsibility of drivers for damage or injuries resulting from auto mishaps. That law inspired legislation in other states, and by the mid-1950s nearly every state had some sort of financial responsibility law on its books.
