Jump up ^ In some cases, Allstate proposed settlement amounts as small as $50, asking claimants to "take it or leave it". The investigative report found that insurance companies often make it so expensive and time consuming to go to court to get full settlement amounts, that it would not be worth the victims time. The claims handled in the matter were very minor collision type losses that did not result in any ($0) damage to the car, and therefore was the insurance company protecting its assets and the premium paying public money, by keeping rates as low as possible."Auto insurers play hardball in minor-crash claims". We identified the auto insurance companies with the cheapest rates, but, as with anything, you want to be sure you are getting high quality service from your insurance company. Reliable car insurance companies are critical in ensuring a smooth customer-insurer relationship. There are a few factors we deemed most important to evaluate a company on which affect policy holders' satisfaction, such as, the average shopping experience, customer service, ability to resolve complaints, and quote filing process.
*The NAIC Car Insurance complaint ratio (in this case 0.64) is a ratio of the number of complaints a company received to the its total premiums written in a calendar year. The median complaint ratio across all Car Insurance companies is 1. A score below 1 means the company received fewer than average complaints. A score above 1 means the company received a higher number of complaints than average.

The General provides insurance for high-risk drivers. If you have a hard time finding coverage elsewhere, just being able to obtain insurance may be a big draw. But the cost of such insurance can be steep — and we don’t just mean premiums. Insufficient coverage means that you might end up paying extra for accidents that you’re involved in, not only to cover costs for expenses like medical bills or property damage, but also because The General may not pay out as much as you need for repairs or claims.

If you have a clean driving record — no at-fault accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs, or other recent citations — you'll probably pay less for car insurance. Conversely, a bad driving record will cause your rates to skyrocket: car insurance premiums typically increase by 30% after a DUI, 31% after an at-fault accident, and 16% after a speeding ticket in Oklahoma. The post-citation penalties assessed by car insurance companies after speeding tickets and at-fault accidents in Oklahoma align with nationwide averages, but drivers receive lower-than-average rate hikes after DUI violations. If you have a clean driving record, be sure to check for good-driving discounts from your insurer.

Young drivers (those between the ages of 16 and 25) pay extraordinarily high auto insurance rates, with those aged 16-19 paying the most expensive premiums of all. Because of the risk presented by inexperienced drivers, teens pay more than three times the national average for car insurance. In Colorado, the typical teen driver pays $4,941 annually — approximately equal to the national average for teens, but about three times more than the average Coloradoan driver.
The General Insurance really came through for me when I was looking for new insurance. I needed something that was not going to cost me a fortune yet still offered me decent coverage and The General Insurance covered that. The application process took very little time at all and my agent walked me through the whole process and answered all of my questions. When I was rear-ended. the process was very simple to get my… read more

Because of the risk presented by inexperienced drivers, teen drivers pay more than three times the national average for car insurance. With The General, you’re going to get the standard fare of auto insurance types. Coverage options will start at your state’s minimum coverage requirements and build from there. The General offers up to four types of car insurance coverage: Liability Coverage, Medical Payments Coverage, Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) Coverage, and Comprehensive and Collision Coverage.
Custom Equipment: If your vehicle is customized with aftermarket parts, consider adding this optional coverage to protect your purchases. Policyholders can add up to $5,000 of additional coverage for accessories and custom parts like fog lights, bed liners and camper shells. Similar to The General’s other policy add-ons, this optional coverage can only be purchased if you have collision and comprehensive coverage.

The price of car insurance can vary greatly between states. One company may be expensive in Utah, but inexpensive in New York. In some states, a small, local company could even offer the best price. Below, click through to your state to see which company and cities have the least expensive car insurance based on the numerous studies we've conducted.

If you choose the legal minimum coverage level in Texas, expect to pay an average of $826 annually. This expenditure is more expensive than the nationwide average by 26%. If you opt for better coverage, you can choose a policy with comprehensive and collision coverage, which will protect against the costs of car-on-car crashes, theft and vandalism, or weather incidents. But better coverage comes with a cost: in Texas, a comprehensive insurance policy with a $1,000 deductible costs $1,620, 96% more than liability-only car insurance. For a comprehensive policy with a $500 deductible, expect to pay 120% more than you would for basic coverage.
Your insurance rate is specific to your zip code. Insurance companies use a variety of factors such as the number of claims in an area, road conditions, and population size to help determine rates in your zip code. As your insurance company assumes a portion of financial responsibility, living in an area with a high rate of stolen vehicles or property damage claims can be seen as a risky investment to an insurance company.

If your employer does not offer health insurance or you're self-employed, you'll need to explore your insurance options. The federal healthcare marketplace is a good starting point; alternately, you can contact insurers directly to see what type of coverage is available in your state. Again, the same criteria used to evaluate an employer's plan would need to be taken into account as you compare policies, in terms of the cost and coverage.

We're big in Dallas. From Frisco and North Plano to Uptown and Downtown, you'll find there are agents all over the Big D who can relate to how and where you live — whether you're frequenting the museums, performance centers and new green spaces in the Dallas Arts District, taking in the games in Arlington at Rangers Ballpark and in the Corral at AT&T Stadium, or fishing for bass in Lake Fork or down in Lake Whitney.
If you’re a high-risk driver, it’s likely that you’ll find The General offers the best auto insurance rates. However, if you don’t fall into the high-risk driver customer segment, you’ll likely receive mediocre to high rates from The General. When you factor in the discounts that drivers have to pass up to be insured through The General, it becomes clear that drivers with clean records would likely receive better rates from other insurance companies.
Been with them for a year, online it says you can change your due date once for FREE. Yet every time I try and change it, they want to charge me. Then they tell me I have 15 days grace period which is a damn lie. I pay the night before the so called lapse is going to take place, and yet they still lapse me. EVERY SINGLE MONTH!!! I try to talk to a supervisor but the little employees make up all kinds of excuses not to let you talk to supervisors. This is the most irresponsible and unprofessional insurance agency I have dealt with in my 53 years of driving. Thank goodness, I havent had to have them do a claim for me that would probably never get taken care of. I highly recommend avoiding The General Car Insurance. I will be moving to Geico or Progressive.
In 1985, Allstate began to move agents out of Sears stores and locate agents in neighborhood offices. In June 1993, 19.8% of Allstate became public through a stock offering. Allstate became completely independent in June 1995, when Sears spun off the remaining 80% stake in the company, distributing 350.5 million shares of Allstate stock to its stockholders.[9]
