If you rent instead of own, a renters insurance policy is just as important. Your belongings inside the dwelling can add up to a significant amount of money. In the event of a burglary, fire or disaster you should be able to at least have a policy that can cover most of the replacement costs. Both homeowners and renter's insurance can also protect you against personal liability if someone is injured at your home.

I recently had my insurance policy canceled with another company, which caused a whole bunch of issues for me. The biggest issue was that my license had become suspended. I fixed all my fines, and got my license back. When searching for a new car insurance company I tried many different companies, but no one really wanted to help me because of the recent suspension, or the prices were sky high. I came across The… read more

The Northwestern Wildcats and the Illinois Fighting Illini played a collegiate football game at Wrigley Field on November 20, 2010. It was the first football game at Wrigley Field since 1970 and the first collegiate football game at Wrigley Field since 1938 when DePaul University played its regular games at Wrigley. Allstate title sponsored this game.
Allstate made waves in 2016 when it requested a 25% rate hike in Georgia--one of the highest requested hikes of the year. Overall, since 2012 Allstate has cumulatively raised its rates by about 20.5% nationally - nearly 2% over the national average and the highest amongst the big four insurers. Premiums have been hiked for every major auto insurer across the country--even for drivers without claims--due to a uptick in accidents and inclement weather.
While some states consider the use of a credit score to determine your insurance rate discriminatory, it’s still a pretty common practice. This is because insurance companies look at studies like the one from the Federal Trade Commission which have shown that drivers with low credit scores are more likely to file a claim than drivers with high credit scores. These findings are reflected in our own State of Insurance report which demonstrates that drivers with poor credit (524) pay more than twice as much for car insurance than those with excellent credit (823). While there are many circumstances surrounding your credit score, raising your credit score can save you around 17% on your auto insurance.
Insurance coverage helps consumers recover financially from unexpected events, such as car accidents or the loss of an income-producing adult supporting a family. Insurance coverage is often determined by multiple factors. For example, most insurers charge higher premiums for young male drivers, as insurers deem the probability of young men being involved in accident to be higher than, say, a middle-aged married man with years of driving experience.
The General is great if you need a low cost and low coverage policy. They are cheap, but you also don't get much coverage. If liability is all you need, they are great. Don't be surprised though if you get into a wreck and find out stuff isn't covered or you don't have enough to cover the other person. I ended up getting sued for the extra amount that they didn't cover. While I eventually… read more
In insurance, the insurance policy is a contract (generally a standard form contract) between the insurer and the insured, known as the policyholder, which determines the claims which the insurer is legally required to pay. In exchange for an initial payment, known as the premium, the insurer promises to pay for loss caused by perils covered under the policy language.
From my experience, I believe The General is not an honest company nor are they professional. The staff I spoke to did not know what they were talking about, lied to me, and did not return my calls. Two months ago, someone rear ended me and he told me and the state trooper he had insurance through The General. I filed a claim through The General, and they denied my claim because "I was at fault," which the police report clearly showed otherwise. A man working in claims at The General proceeded to tell me my insurance company paid for the other guy's repairs, which was a lie. I called my insurance company to confirm they had not paid for anyone's repairs. Turns out the guy who rear ended me did not have insurance, and I had to spend two months calling The General and my insurance company to finally get the truth and access to coverage.
Type of car: If you have an expensive or powerful car then you are seen as a higher risk for a number of reasons. If it’s expensive, it has a higher risk of being stolen. If it’s powerful, it’s deemed more at risk of getting into an accident driving at speed. If you want to see how your car impacts your insurance, you can check which insurance group it’s in for an indication.
Jackets - The term has several distinct and confusing meanings. In general, it refers to some set of standard boilerplate provisions which accompanies all policies at the time of delivery. Some insurers refer to a package of standard documents shared across an entire family of policies as a "jacket." Some insurers extend this to include policy forms, so that the only parts of the policy not part of the jacket are the declarations, endorsements, and riders. Other insurers use the term "jacket" in a manner closer to its ordinary meaning: a binder, envelope, or presentation folder with pockets in which the policy may be delivered, or a cover sheet to which the policy forms are stapled or which is stapled on top of the policy. The standard boilerplate provisions are then printed on the jacket itself.
Many insurance companies offer a discount for enrolling in their telematics program, which means they’ll monitor your driving through either a phone app or small, installable tool. Some companies will offer a discount just for allowing them to track your driving, while others will monitor while you drive and offer price reductions based on your skills.
Notes No risk of losing coverage, but no cash value when term ends No risk compared to other permanent types, but there are probably better investment options Refunds your premiums at the end of the term if you outlive the policy - Risk of holding expensive insurance policy with little ot no cash value Risk of holding expensive insurance policy with little to no cash value
On this level, Allstate ratings indicate they are in an extremely strong position to pay out on claims and have the financial backing to do so in normal circumstances. The financial strength ratings of Allstate are meant to be used as an indicator of their ability to deliver financially and reflect the fact that they are one of the largest insurance corporations as explained in the section above: "How stable is Allstate". This reflects on the financial management of the company and is only one aspect, a very important one of any financial services company.
The Governor of Michigan declared a state of emergency due to severe storms and flooding. Customers tend to have high expectations for a claim, and rightfully so. A property insurance claim can turn into an insurance nightmare if not handled properly and create serious stress for a consumer. Home insurance claims have the potential to fall short of expectations on several levels, in particular when a person did not get the best insurance coverage options. Living through a property insurance claim is very challenging, so for Allstate to receive consistent ratings in this study and be reviewed as about average is actually a pretty decent indication that they get the job done.
For the minimum required coverage in Colorado, be prepared to pay a mean of $647 annually. This is cheaper than the nationwide average by 2%. If you opt for better car insurance coverage, you can select a policy with comprehensive and collision coverage, insuring against the costs of auto collisions, theft, or weather incidents. It's worth noting that better coverage comes at a cost: in Colorado, a comprehensive policy with a $1,000 deductible costs $1,273, 97% more than basic insurance coverage. For comprehensive coverage with a $500 deductible, expect to pay 122% more than you might for a basic liability-only policy.
Review popular insurance companies' financial strength and claims satisfaction levels to better understand the level of service you'll receive. Claims satisfaction — assigned by J.D. Power — is rated on a scale of 2 to 5, with 5 being "among the best" and 2 being "the rest." Financial strength — calculated by A.M. Best and ranging from "Superior" to "Poor" — determines an insurance company's financial stability and ability to fulfill its policy and contractual obligations.
They put me in debt over $190, I'm only 20 years old. Had the insurance for less than a month, they were so nice when they were receiving my card number of course. But once I canceled to move onto a BETTER company they were no longer helpful, said I owed more money when it was paid and they sent what I refused to pay to collections. Of course the lady heard nasty words from me because she was honestly a **. To keep it real they screwed me over entirely. They are good with fraud, real expensive, and have no locations unless you’re in Kentucky I believe. So my opinion, they are trash. Everyone who works for them that I have experienced is rude as hell. They don’t care about anything about you besides the money you’re forking over. So I suggest you NOT consider them at any point. Disgusting company that should definitely not even exist. Thanks for reading.
If you find yourself away from the wheel more times than not, a pay-per mile auto insurance company like Metromile may be the best company to go with. Metromile is one of the first companies in the U.S. where a bulk of a driver's premium is determined by how much they drive. How much is too much? We found that generally for Metromile to be a good deal, drivers should only drive 7,500 miles or less per year. The biggest downsides to Metromile is a mediocre record of claims handling, in addition to the company only being available in seven states: CA, IL, NJ, OR, PA, VA, WA.
Liability coverage is legally required in Oklahoma and pays for injury and lost wages that you cause to another driver or their passengers as well as damage to the other driver’s vehicle in the event that you are considered “at fault” in an accident. The coverage limits are determined by each individual state and normally split into three categories. In Oklahoma, the minimum is listed as 25/50/25 and explained below:
Young drivers — aged between 16 and 25 — pay very high car insurance rates, with those aged 16-19 paying the most expensive premiums of all. Because of the risk presented by inexperienced drivers, teen drivers pay more than three times the national average for car insurance. In Texas, teen drivers pay especially high rates: $7,096 per year — more than $2,000 more than the nationwide average and almost four times as much as a typical Texas driver.
I switched from Progressive to the General a couple months ago. I had the general a year ago but let it lapse. I decided to switch because of my previously low rate. I obtained an online quote, entered in all the correct information, tickets etc. but once I signed back in to retrieve my quote and purchase the policy my rate jumped up $20. The same things I entered on my driving history showed when… read more

On August 23, 2017, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an emergency bulletin (Bulletin B-0009-17) declaring multiple counties as disaster areas due to the effects of Hurricane Harvey. As a result of the historic flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey, and the extensive displacement of Texas citizens, Combined Insurance customers residing in the Texas counties noted below may be eligible for a due date extension of their Combined policy renewal premium payments due, as well as any deadlines to submit claim proof of loss. I picked up an old clunker of a four wheel drive truck. I was mostly going to use it for hauling brush and wood between two properties that I owned that are about a half mile apart down the road. I needed some insurance on the truck since I was going to be out on the road with it, but I didn't really want to put it on my overall policy. I saw a tv… read more

Some level of automobile insurance is required by law in most places. Even if you are not required to have it, and you are driving an old clunker that has been paid off for years, automobile insurance is something you shouldn't skip. If you are involved in an accident and someone is injured or their property is damaged, you may be subject to a lawsuit that could cost you everything you own. Accidents happen quickly and the results are often tragic. Having no automobile insurance or purchasing only the minimum required coverage saves you only a tiny amount of money, and puts everything else you own at risk.
In addition, while The General makes it easy to get a quote and streamlines the process of obtaining coverage, many drivers report a complicated claims process that often results in unsatisfactory payouts. This also holds true for repairs — customers have noted that The General often does its best to keep from paying for coverage it promised. If you’re at the end of the road when it comes to insurance options, The General may be able to provide you with a policy, but we wouldn’t recommend it for most drivers.
Another type of policy that is often required is auto insurance. Most states require by law that you have basic auto insurance that covers liability. If you're buying a car with a loan, you may also be required to add collision coverage to your policy. If you're in an accident, liability insurance covers damages to the other vehicle, while collision covers damage to yours.
This company is a joke. I would not give them half a star let alone one full star but in order to review I had to. To make a long story short, Get out before you ever file a claim with them and if you do have to file a claim plan on having to get an attorney to resolve the issue Run as fast as you can AWAY from this insurance company. they should be out of business.
The General is tech-savvy, offering a sophisticated online portal, app and live chat function. And while you can manage or change your coverage on those platforms, to cancel your policy, you’ll need to get in touch with an agent over the phone, in person or by mail. Expect the last-ditch sales pitch, but know that you have the right to cancel your policy at any time.
If you have a clean driving record — no at-fault accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs, or other recent citations — you'll probably pay less for car insurance. Conversely, a bad driving record will cause your rates to skyrocket: car insurance premiums typically increase by 30% after a DUI, 31% after an at-fault accident, and 16% after a speeding ticket in Oklahoma. The post-citation penalties assessed by car insurance companies after speeding tickets and at-fault accidents in Oklahoma align with nationwide averages, but drivers receive lower-than-average rate hikes after DUI violations. If you have a clean driving record, be sure to check for good-driving discounts from your insurer.
The General offers fewer supplemental coverage options than our other picks for the best auto insurance companies, but it does include roadside assistance, a service which keeps you from being stranded on the side of the road after an accident or vehicle failure. If you’re not a member of AAA or another auto service provider which offers roadside assistance coverage, opting for supplemental coverage on your policy will provide greater peace of mind while you’re on the road.
