My vehicle was hit on Sept. 4, 2018 by Mr.__________ of ______ Winterpock Rd.Chesterfield, VA. He was deemed to be at fault - Chesterfield Police report # **. This individual was issued a summons for reckless driving in addition to 2 other offenses. I have been going round and round with The General Ins. co. since this happened - my vehicle a 2010 Ford Explorer has been repaired as of today Sept. 28, 2018 and I was told by Caliber Collusion, 2820 Hull St. Richmond, VA 804-233-5446 that they cannot release my car because they haven't received any confirmation of payment or any money from The General.
The biggest downside to Erie is that it is only available in Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. As well, Erie still relies strongly on its agent network; which isn't always a bad thing. A strong agent network is usually key to ensuring a smooth claims process. If you want to quickly buy car insurance without speaking to anyone though, Erie may not be the company for you. While you can start the process online, you ultimately will have to speak with an agent to finalize your quote. Erie will be ideal for any customers within its market, who do not mind putting in some extra effort to get quality and cheap auto insurance.
Each auto insurance company emphasizes its cheap rates. But as with any product or service, the cheapest car insurance option isn't always the best choice. Considering what's at stake, it's worth doing the research to find the policy that protects your vehicle adequately after an incident. Be patient and look for a great value, rather than settling for the cheapest auto insurance you find.
You can find an insurance policy to cover almost anything imaginable but some are more deserving than others of a place in your financial plan. You work hard throughout your life to build wealth and live a happy and comfortable life and your insurance coverage should offer protection for your possessions, income and for the loved ones you'll someday leave behind. As you map your financial future, these four types of insurance should be firmly on your radar
To see how much I would save on auto insurance by nixing all coverage but liability, I plugged a few stats into a quote generator. I used the persona of a married male in his early 30s driving a paid-off 2011 Hyundai Sonata. I said he lives in a small Southern city, has a clean driving record, and averages 12,000 miles a year. A policy with 50/100/50 in liability, as well as comprehensive and collision policies with $250 deductibles, would set him back $45 a month. Dropping the comprehensive and collision policies would bring my bill down to just $24 a month — almost half the the cost.
Been with them for a year, online it says you can change your due date once for FREE. Yet every time I try and change it, they want to charge me. Then they tell me I have 15 days grace period which is a damn lie. I pay the night before the so called lapse is going to take place, and yet they still lapse me. EVERY SINGLE MONTH!!! I try to talk to a supervisor but the little employees make up all kinds of excuses not to let you talk to supervisors. This is the most irresponsible and unprofessional insurance agency I have dealt with in my 53 years of driving. Thank goodness, I havent had to have them do a claim for me that would probably never get taken care of. I highly recommend avoiding The General Car Insurance. I will be moving to Geico or Progressive.
At Freeway Insurance, cheap car insurance doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice quality coverage in order to get a lower rate. We work with top insurance companies to get you the best coverage at the lowest price based on your specific needs. We’ve been helping customers save money on auto insurance for over 30 years and we can do the same for you — even if you’ve had tickets, accidents, a DUI, or require an SR-22. We can help anyone find low-cost auto insurance.
High-risk drivers who are searching for an auto insurance company with affordable rates will find The General to be one of the best-priced options. However, the company’s negative reviews and lack of meaningful discounts make The General a bad choice for those with clean driving records. Even high-risk drivers might find another insurance company to be a better choice if they value great customer service and a painless claims process over low rates.
Another type of policy that is often required is auto insurance. Most states require by law that you have basic auto insurance that covers liability. If you're buying a car with a loan, you may also be required to add collision coverage to your policy. If you're in an accident, liability insurance covers damages to the other vehicle, while collision covers damage to yours.

If you’re drawn to The General because of a poor driving record or credit score, we recommend looking at Progressive first. While Progressive scores lower in financial strength and claims satisfaction than the top insurers in the industry, it offers unique discounts and supplemental coverage options specifically tailored for high-risk drivers, including a rare discount for drivers under 18. Because of its rare coverage options and financial strength ratings, Progressive is likely a better option than The General for most drivers.

Drivewise: Allstate rewards you with up to a 3% discount just for using its Drivewise app, which analyzes your speed and braking behavior, as well as what time of day you drive. You can earn an additional 15% back after your first 50 trips and every six months you drive safely afterward, and earn rewards points toward shopping discounts. Even non-customers can sign up for the rewards points program, but it’s not available in every state.

Rental Reimbursement: This optional coverage reimburses you for expenses associated with renting a vehicle if your car is involved in a covered accident. While the coverage limits vary depending on your vehicle type, you can expect coverage to start at $20 per day for a maximum of 30 days. To use The General’s rental reimbursement, your policy must include comprehensive and collision coverage, a restriction not typically imposed by other insurance companies.
24/7 Roadside Assistance: If you want roadside services, such as tire changes, battery replenishment, fluid delivery (gas, oil, etc.) or towing, you’ll want to purchase this optional coverage. The General’s roadside assistance is administered by Nation Safe Drivers (NSD). When you request roadside assistance, NSD will administer up to one service free of charge per instance. The towing service has a maximum benefit of 15 miles or $50, whichever is reached first. To request roadside assistance, The General’s customers can dial 1-800-338-2680.
I needed car insurance that was more affordable than my previous coverage. I had heard of this company though the commercials on television. I decided to look them up online to find out about pricing. I was pleased with the prices, and since they were less than what I was paying, I switched companies. I have had full coverage ever since, and the coverage was sufficient for the bank where I have loans on my… read more

I love the General car insurance! When I first signed up, the process was easy and quick. The customer service representatives where polite and courteous. When I came into financial troubles, they worked with me and made me feel very important. I would recommend their services to everyone who needs any kind of car insurance. They try to match their competition and try to find all the discounts you qualify for. I am a loyal… read more

*The NAIC Car Insurance complaint ratio (in this case 0.64) is a ratio of the number of complaints a company received to the its total premiums written in a calendar year. The median complaint ratio across all Car Insurance companies is 1. A score below 1 means the company received fewer than average complaints. A score above 1 means the company received a higher number of complaints than average.
The General offers barebones insurance for high-risk drivers. For this reason, the company doesn’t offer much in the way of discounts or extra cost savings. But that doesn’t mean you’ll break the bank as a customer of The General. If you’re a budget shopper, The General does offer low down payments and is flexible with its payment options, such as offering a discount for paying your bill in full. All drivers can take a few steps to get lower auto insurance rates, and the same rules apply for The General. To learn more, read our guide to discounts and money-saving for The General.

Compare major insurers' financial strength and claims satisfaction ratings to better predict the level of service you will receive. Claims satisfaction — assigned by J.D. Power — is rated on a scale of 2 to 5, with 5 being "among the best" and 2 being "the rest." Financial strength — calculated by A.M. Best and ranging from "Poor" to "Superior" — assesses an insurance company's financial strength and ability to satisfy its policy and contractual obligations.
Collision coverage pays to repair the damage your vehicle after an accident with another car or an object such as a fence. Comprehensive coverage pays to repair vehicle damage from weather, animal crashes, floods, fire and vandalism. It also covers car theft. But the maximum payout under either policy is limited by the value of the car if it’s totaled or stolen. If your car is older and has a low market value, it may not make sense to shell out for these types of coverage.
The General is intended for drivers who may face steep rates from other insurers, but that doesn’t mean it will be able to provide those drivers with the protection they need. Few coverage options and a history of complicated claims resolution keeps us from recommending The General. Even if it offers lower rates than the competition, you might eventually get hit with unexpected fees that drive up the price of your coverage. If you can avoid it, you should — there are better insurance options out there.
Jackets - The term has several distinct and confusing meanings. In general, it refers to some set of standard boilerplate provisions which accompanies all policies at the time of delivery. Some insurers refer to a package of standard documents shared across an entire family of policies as a "jacket." Some insurers extend this to include policy forms, so that the only parts of the policy not part of the jacket are the declarations, endorsements, and riders. Other insurers use the term "jacket" in a manner closer to its ordinary meaning: a binder, envelope, or presentation folder with pockets in which the policy may be delivered, or a cover sheet to which the policy forms are stapled or which is stapled on top of the policy. The standard boilerplate provisions are then printed on the jacket itself.
Most automotive insurance policies cover bodily injury or death of another person in an incident that you are legally responsible. While it generally pays for medical expenses related to the incident it can also cover legal defense costs. You will also generally find medical payment coverage that pays for medical treatment for you and your passengers during an accident regardless of who was at fault. You can also include rental car coverage in your policy in the event that an accident leaves your car undriveable.
After our analysis of 2,700 cities and 128 companies, we found that Erie was the most affordable major insurer in the country with an average yearly rate of $1,052 based on our sample driver - about 31% cheaper than the national average across every insurer. The very largest of the five is GEICO, the second largest auto insurer in the U.S. by market share.

The General doesn’t ask for any identifying information when you request a quote online. You’ll just need to answer a few questions about your driving history, vehicle, and basic personal information like age, gender, and marital status. The General claims that it takes less than two minutes to complete the quote process, and we found this to be an accurate estimate.
My husband and I had The General Insurance from 2009-2010, and--overall--we were pleased with the service/product. The application process online was not time-consuming. Applying for and purchasing a policy was as stress-free as we've ever had it, with regards to auto insurance. (This was mainly due to the fact that The General's website did our "legwork" and research for us--so we didn't have to)! Once our application process was complete, my husband and I were… read more
