Don't get The General as your insurance. They don't care about you or what happened. They seem to care more about paying the other companies JUST TO RAISE YOUR RATES. First of all the entire time they kept talking to me like I was a stranger. It made me feel real upset that they kept asking me my name, what car I drove, what year it is. REALLY? You are my insurance and you don't know what car I drive, my name, or where I live?

“ The instant case presents yet another illustration of the dangers of the present complex structuring of insurance policies. Unfortunately the insurance industry has become addicted to the practice of building into policies one condition or exception upon another in the shape of a linguistic Tower of Babel. We join other courts in decrying a trend which both plunges the insured into a state of uncertainty and burdens the judiciary with the task of resolving it. We reiterate our plea for clarity and simplicity in policies that fulfill so important a public service. [20] ”
At The Zebra, we know better than most just what a pain buying car insurance can be. We also know that students suffer from higher-than-average policy rates. Talk about a double-whammy. That’s why, this year, we’ve decided to continue The Zebra’s annual scholarship with the goal of helping to alleviate the financial pressures of college-bound students in Oklahoma, while also getting an insider view of the Sooner State.
Insurance companies can’t legally ask your income to determine your rate, but they are able to use other metrics that are often (but not always) correlated to your income level. There is not a golden rule that people with lower incomes have worse driving records than those who occupy a higher tax bracket. Car insurance data suggests that people with higher incomes file fewer claims, but that could be because they simply are able to pay for damages out of pocket rather than filing a claim. Because a lot of these mentioned topics are not always in your control, let’s look at some ways you can still save on car insurance.

Young drivers (those between the ages of 16 and 25) pay extraordinarily high auto insurance rates, with those aged 16-19 paying the most expensive premiums of all. Because of the risk presented by inexperienced drivers, teens pay more than three times the national average for car insurance. In Colorado, the typical teen driver pays $4,941 annually — approximately equal to the national average for teens, but about three times more than the average Coloradoan driver.
This insurance company is the the worst you can ever get. My brand new Tacoma was T-boned and has extensive damage. My truck has been at the shop for a month and no repairs have been authorized! Myself and the repair shop have been calling daily and all we get is “we can’t do anything” BS. My truck also needs nearly 5 weeks of repair done. I’ll be surprised if I get it back before Christmas. Also, if you’re a servicemember, stay the ** away. That means you, privates. You will PCS without your vehicle, and The General doesn’t give a flyin **. If you have The General already, be prepared to get a lawyer because they will find any way to screw you over and not pay for your repairs because they gotta pay Shaq all that money for their commercials.
This supplemental option provides protection for any custom parts you may have installed in your vehicle, like grilles, stereo systems, paint jobs, or spoilers. If you elect to purchase this coverage, The General will pay for the cost of replacing these parts after an accident (which aren’t usually included under a standard insurance policy). That said, The General does have a limit on custom equipment coverage: In California, the limit is $1,500, and in every other state, it’s $5,000.

Review popular insurance companies' financial strength and claims satisfaction levels to better understand the level of service you'll receive. Claims satisfaction — assigned by J.D. Power — is rated on a scale of 2 to 5, with 5 being "among the best" and 2 being "the rest." Financial strength — calculated by A.M. Best and ranging from "Superior" to "Poor" — determines an insurance company's financial stability and ability to fulfill its policy and contractual obligations.

I needed car insurance that was more affordable than my previous coverage. I had heard of this company though the commercials on television. I decided to look them up online to find out about pricing. I was pleased with the prices, and since they were less than what I was paying, I switched companies. I have had full coverage ever since, and the coverage was sufficient for the bank where I have loans on my… read more

A score above 1 means the company received a higher number of complaints than average.
My vehicle was hit on Sept. 4, 2018 by Mr.__________ of ______ Winterpock Rd.Chesterfield, VA. He was deemed to be at fault - Chesterfield Police report # **. This individual was issued a summons for reckless driving in addition to 2 other offenses. I have been going round and round with The General Ins. co. since this happened - my vehicle a 2010 Ford Explorer has been repaired as of today Sept. 28, 2018 and I was told by Caliber Collusion, 2820 Hull St. Richmond, VA 804-233-5446 that they cannot release my car because they haven't received any confirmation of payment or any money from The General.
If you carry the minimum required coverage in Oklahoma, prepare to pay an average of $693 annually. This is pricier than the nationwide average by 5%. If you elect more comprehensive coverage, you can purchase a policy with comprehensive and collision coverage, which will protect against damages caused by vehicular collisions, auto theft, or weather incidents. However, better insurance comes at a price: in Oklahoma, a comprehensive policy with a $1,000 deductible costs $1,384, 100% more than basic liability-only coverage. For a comprehensive policy with a $500 deductible, expect to pay 126% more than you might for basic liability-only coverage.
Earnix, a pricing analytics platform, found that 45% of larger insurance companies use this tactic to maximize their profits. These insurers mine and analyze a ton of personal data, like credit scores and web shopping habits, to determine how likely you are to leave them for another auto insurance company. The bottom line is this: Auto insurance companies are going to charge you based upon how much money they believe they can comfortably squeeze from your pocket, not who you are as a driver.
If you have a clean driving record — no at-fault accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs, or other recent citations — you'll probably pay less for car insurance. Conversely, a bad driving record will cause your rates to skyrocket: car insurance premiums typically increase by 30% after a DUI, 31% after an at-fault accident, and 16% after a speeding ticket in Oklahoma. The post-citation penalties assessed by car insurance companies after speeding tickets and at-fault accidents in Oklahoma align with nationwide averages, but drivers receive lower-than-average rate hikes after DUI violations. If you have a clean driving record, be sure to check for good-driving discounts from your insurer.
Wow I know the General Automotive commercial from anywhere for as long as I can remember! It was time for me to renew my auto insurance since my policy slightly increased with my previous insurance carrier. So I finally decide to give the General a try. At first I received a quote online that I felt comfortable with. I call them the next day, the service was friendly and fast. They talked to me and… read more
This is by far the lowest Car insurance I have found. I was only looking for state minimum coverage and wanted to spend as little as possible. After requesting quotes from many insurance companies, I was so happy to find The General. The entire process can be done online and was so easy. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone looking to save some money. They even give you the option to pay for… read more

The General is great if you need a low cost and low coverage policy. They are cheap, but you also don't get much coverage. If liability is all you need, they are great. Don't be surprised though if you get into a wreck and find out stuff isn't covered or you don't have enough to cover the other person. I ended up getting sued for the extra amount that they didn't cover. While I eventually… read more

They said I couldn't start a new policy and then wouldn't add the coverage and kept trying to get me to sign docs that weren't even what I wanted nor was it the state minimum. They refused to work with me and said they couldn't advise me. The whole time eating up the money. In the end they charged me way more than even their quote or any other company would have for now of the coverage I needed. Same coverage as I had on an owned vehicle for one that was financed. This was them finagling a way to get more money. I paid $168 for a nothing policy that was $38 originally.

Policyholders have a reason to be confident about The General’s ability to pay claims, as the company is in great financial standing. A.M. Best Rating Services, an insurance company rating agency, assigned The General an A rating, which is the third highest rating possible. The high rating signifies that The General is financially capable of supporting customer claims.
Rental Reimbursement: This optional coverage reimburses you for expenses associated with renting a vehicle if your car is involved in a covered accident. While the coverage limits vary depending on your vehicle type, you can expect coverage to start at $20 per day for a maximum of 30 days. To use The General’s rental reimbursement, your policy must include comprehensive and collision coverage, a restriction not typically imposed by other insurance companies.
The insurer allows you to buy a policy if you have a suspended or revoked driver’s license, as long as you have been licensed at some point and have a driver’s license number to put on your application. The company is authorized to file an SR-22, a form for high-risk drivers submitted to your state’s DMV or traffic authority that shows you carry your state’s minimum liability requirements, in any state where you are applying for insurance.
If you have a clean driving record — no at-fault accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs, or other recent citations — you'll probably pay less for car insurance. Conversely, a bad driving record will cause your rates to skyrocket: car insurance premiums typically increase by 29% after a DUI, 33% after an at-fault accident, and 15% after a speeding ticket in Virginia. The post-citation penalties assessed by car insurance companies after speeding tickets and at-fault accidents in Virginia align with nationwide averages, but drivers receive lower-than-average rate hikes after DUI violations. If you have a clean driving record, be sure to check for good-driving discounts from your insurer.
Auto insurance premiums depend on the insured party's driving record. A record free of accidents or serious traffic violations typically results in a lower premium. Drivers with histories of accidents or serious traffic violations may pay higher premiums. Likewise, because mature drivers tend to have fewer accidents than less-experienced drivers, insurers typically charge more for drivers below age 25.
In 1941, only about a quarter of US drivers had auto liability insurance. This led to the state of New York passing a law which established the financial responsibility of drivers for damage or injuries resulting from auto mishaps. That law inspired legislation in other states, and by the mid-1950s nearly every state had some sort of financial responsibility law on its books.[9]
