Drivewise: Allstate rewards you with up to a 3% discount just for using its Drivewise app, which analyzes your speed and braking behavior, as well as what time of day you drive. You can earn an additional 15% back after your first 50 trips and every six months you drive safely afterward, and earn rewards points toward shopping discounts. Even non-customers can sign up for the rewards points program, but it’s not available in every state.
If your employer does not offer health insurance or you're self-employed, you'll need to explore your insurance options. The federal healthcare marketplace is a good starting point; alternately, you can contact insurers directly to see what type of coverage is available in your state. Again, the same criteria used to evaluate an employer's plan would need to be taken into account as you compare policies, in terms of the cost and coverage.
Plus, there are hundreds of car insurance companies. What are the chances that the one company you selected is the cheapest car insurance for you? Unless you are comparing prices, you won’t know how much you could be saving. In one comparison, a woman in Texas got prices that ranged from $77 a month to $300. That’s over $2,600 in savings every year from switching car insurance companies.
The General specializes in insuring “nonstandard” drivers — also known as high-risk drivers. Your anonymous online quote includes the minimum car insurance required for your state, with the option to pay more for additional coverage or benefits. If you have a prior history of multiple infractions or just want affordable car insurance, The General might be right for you. Compare your options to find a provider that’s right for you.
From my experience, I believe The General is not an honest company nor are they professional. The staff I spoke to did not know what they were talking about, lied to me, and did not return my calls. Two months ago, someone rear ended me and he told me and the state trooper he had insurance through The General. I filed a claim through The General, and they denied my claim because "I was at fault," which the police report clearly showed otherwise. A man working in claims at The General proceeded to tell me my insurance company paid for the other guy's repairs, which was a lie. I called my insurance company to confirm they had not paid for anyone's repairs. Turns out the guy who rear ended me did not have insurance, and I had to spend two months calling The General and my insurance company to finally get the truth and access to coverage.
Overall, Allstate is a good and stable insurance company. Any insurance company will have its challenging experiences but based on the average, Allstate is doing well and it's an indication that if you communicate openly and purchase a product that is suitable to your needs, that they have the ability to deliver in a claim and offer a satisfying experience.
In the United States, property and casualty insurers typically use similar or even identical language in their standard insurance policies, which are drafted by advisory organizations such as the Insurance Services Office and the American Association of Insurance Services.[30] This reduces the regulatory burden for insurers as policy forms must be approved by states; it also allows consumers to more readily compare policies, albeit at the expense of consumer choice.[30] In addition, as policy forms are reviewed by courts, the interpretations become more predictable as courts elaborate upon the interpretation of the same clauses in the same policy forms, rather than different policies from different insurers.[31]

Compare major insurers' financial strength and claims satisfaction ratings to better predict the level of service you will receive. Claims satisfaction — assigned by J.D. Power — is rated on a scale of 2 to 5, with 5 being "among the best" and 2 being "the rest." Financial strength — calculated by A.M. Best and ranging from "Poor" to "Superior" — assesses an insurance company's financial strength and ability to satisfy its policy and contractual obligations.
Like with all auto insurers, the quality of claims handling actually varies depending where in the U.S. you live. According to J.D. Power, Allstate's claims handling is above average in New England, and superb in Texas. It is below average however in the midwest and southeast. If you live in those areas, Allstate, compounded with its expensive price tag, doesn't make quite a compelling argument.
If paying the absolute minimum necessary for car insurance is something that's important to you, the General is definitely the way to go. I don't really drive a whole lot since I live in an area where most of what I need is within walking distance, so I didn't see the point in spending a huge amount of money on insuring a car I hardly use. The General offered me the lowest rate by a… read more
Allstate's various product features and offerings can be an advantage in bundling insurance products to get discounts, as well creating the opportunity to build a strong relationship with an agent who will understand the full picture of your insurance needs and who is more likely to fight for you in the event of a claim or difficult situation. In addition, Allstate also offers a wide range of insurance endorsements and riders.

I paid on time with auto pay for six months straight. It’s so happened that I switched banks and in the resulting delay from my new direct deposit from my job, my first month on the next policy was missed and the policy lapsed. I offered to pay right away and asked if I could just continue my policy from there with auto payments since my bank account had by now been straightened out. They refused and said I needed to start over with a new quote. Since my lapsing payment now was visible when making my new quote it caused the price of my car insurance to drastically increase. I got zero help from them even though I had never paid late before.
The book was reviewed by Business Week magazine.[44] According to that article, Allstate responded to Berardinelli's allegations by claiming that Berardinelli's allegations were "unfounded and unproven." Rather than trying to cheat customers, the company stated that its major goal was to benefit policyholders by identifying "exaggerated and fraudulent claims" and that its "processes are absolutely sound . . . to investigate, evaluate, and promptly resolve each claim fairly, based on the merits."[44]
