Travelers Insurance offers the most comprehensive coverage of any auto insurance provider we saw. It has options for accident forgiveness, GAP insurance, and special coverage for drivers employed by rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft. And while The General might give you a lower base quote, Travelers’ long list of discounts could erase that gap quickly.

The General Insurance really came through for me when I was looking for new insurance. I needed something that was not going to cost me a fortune yet still offered me decent coverage and The General Insurance covered that. The application process took very little time at all and my agent walked me through the whole process and answered all of my questions. When I was rear-ended. the process was very simple to get my… read more

This is pretty ridiculous considering the fact that: 1st, I had regularly asked my former insurance company for reviews and discounts; 2nd, I recently got a speeding ticket in a school zone (which I am a bit ashamed to say) just before I switched; and 3rd, that $1,100 savings was before I got an additional discount for bundling my home insurance on my policy (which is a lot lower now too).
Allstate, while it offers many interesting discounts and features, should not be the first option for most drivers based on our analysis of several driver types. Rates from Allstate can cost more compared to other insurers, and claims handling and customer satisfaction tend to be average. In this review we evaluate Allstate on its affordability, claims handling, coverage options, shopping experience and discount programs, and see how it compares to others.
Double Deductible: As the name suggests, the Double Deductible discount doubles your deductible for the first 45 days of your policy, which causes your insurance costs to decrease over the same period. After 45 days your auto insurance deductible returns to its normal level. The discount isn’t particularly unique considering that most other companies allow customers to adjust their deductibles.

Was told my bill would be $136.00 for 6 months. By the fourth month they sent me a bill for $419.00!!! When I called to inquire they said it was because they added my daughter that does not drive. I excluded her but these frauds still want to charge me for her. I spoke with a very rude supervisor by the name of Ara. He was useless. The best he was willing to do was drop my bill down to $244.47, which means that I will still have to pay for someone that does not drive my car. Stay Away from this company!!!

It's all fun and games and think you're getting a good deal til you're actually sitting on the side of the road with flat tire in 90 degree heat, 7pm at night, late for someplace you're supposed to be at, and this clown-ass bulls*** company after 40 minute on Hold tells you too bad... yes you purchased roadside assistance for towing coverage but it only covers you if you're in an accident... not a flat… read more
When it comes to researching multiple providers, reviews are a great source of information and play a major role in the decision-making process. We researched what customers say about their experience with the company, and the results are telling. Customers rate The General poorly for claims process and customer satisfaction, but a little better for cost. Curious about the details? Check out our complete breakdown of The General auto insurance reviews.
Insurance contracts were traditionally written on the basis of every single type of risk (where risks were defined extremely narrowly), and a separate premium was calculated and charged for each. Only those individual risks expressly described or "scheduled" in the policy were covered; hence, those policies are now described as "individual" or "schedule" policies.[13] This system of "named perils"[14] or "specific perils"[15] coverage proved to be unsustainable in the context of the Second Industrial Revolution, in that a typical large conglomerate might have dozens of types of risks to insure against. For example, in 1926, an insurance industry spokesman noted that a bakery would have to buy a separate policy for each of the following risks: manufacturing operations, elevators, teamsters, product liability, contractual liability (for a spur track connecting the bakery to a nearby railroad), premises liability (for a retail store), and owners' protective liability (for negligence of contractors hired to make any building modifications).[13]

I recently had my insurance policy canceled with another company, which caused a whole bunch of issues for me. The biggest issue was that my license had become suspended. I fixed all my fines, and got my license back. When searching for a new car insurance company I tried many different companies, but no one really wanted to help me because of the recent suspension, or the prices were sky high. I came across The… read more
In 1925, Sears held a national contest to decide the name of a new brand of car tires. After over two million name submissions, "Allstate" was chosen. The trademark was adopted the next year. The tires' success in the catalog and retail stores prompted Sears Chairman General Robert E. Wood to praise the Allstate tire's contribution to Sears' retail store success.[1]
